Experimental Film | Jelly Bones (2009)

This was my final assignment for Experimental Film Studies at UniSA. Experimental Film was a strange subject, we were told to ignore all conventional narrative structure and try to convey an idea or emotion another way. To be honest I thought that people saw whatever they wanted in films like this, but my tutor watched it and recognized the meaning very accurately. The film is supposed to convey growing frustration and anger.

The real ‘experiment’ of the project was to mash up as many different forms of media as I could. I didn’t know anything about working with 3D in After Effects or Colour Keys until I made this film. There is some Flash animation in there, some Non-Digital Media and some Live Action Footage. I wanted to see how well I could combine the elements.

Also the film was named after a song by a band called The Unicorns, for no reason I can recall.
